Diamond Rings - “Rainbow Remix” - part four.
I’ve really been enjoying a series of remixes that Canadian John O’Regan AKA Diamond Rings has been releasing for the last several weeks. John explains on his blog:
“Remix Rainbow is a six part series I’ve been working on as a thank-you to the aforementioned group of artists whose recent work has brought me a sense of newfound inspiration. I’ll be releasing one remix for free download every Tuesday until June 21st, which is also the date my debut full length Special Affections is being re-released worldwide via Astralwerks ……
Featured this week is Theophilus London, a Brooklyn, NY based artist whose full length debut “Timez Are Weird These Days” will be dropping June 19th on Warner Bros. I was first introduced to his music a couple of years ago when I heard his take on Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” from one of his early mixtapes. There’s no word on whether or not Theo’s new record will have a Whitney cameo but I’m looking forward to hearing it nonetheless… The song I’ve remixed is called “Why Even Try” and also features some extra sassy backing vocals from Sara Quin of Tegan and Sara fame.”
This is the fourth remix of the series. I can only really describe it as an experimental hip-hop/electro number. I like the way that the track slowly builds, and when Sara Quin’s vocals really kick-in, it’s so delicious.
Diamond Rings’ EP “Special Affections” was one of my favorites of 2010. I hope this world-wide, re-release will get it the attention that it’s deserved. I also pray there are plans to release some new/original material soon.
Go to his website to snag this jam, as well as the first three remixes of the series. The previous others were of songs by Motem, Austra and Miracle Fortress. All of them are excellent, perhaps even more so than this one IMHO.
PS. I like this picture of him very, very, very, very, very, very, much. A guy with a ghetto-blaster stereo always does it for me.
